What a bore... I try really hard not to add to my DNF pile, but damn... this one deserved it. I listened to the audiobook, and I will say, if not for great narration, it would have gone there. I kept thinking it would get better, and gave it plenty of time, and then when I finally decided to DNF it, I realized I didn't have much left, so I just finished it. I won't be looking at other books from this author sadly, as this was my first experience.

Solitamente do cinque stelle ai miei libri preferiti.

I listened to this Audible because it was free, and because Sir Ian McKellen narrates it. Also because who doesn’t love a good romance centered around mentally unstable characters?

Stella seems, to me, who is not a clinical psychologist, to be a bit of a histrionic. Seeking dangerous behavior, dressing in suggestive ways for the time, drinking to excess. Consistently putting her needs above everyone else’s, to her own demise. I don’t pity her. You’re supposed to. You’re supposed to feel bad for her, that she’s been used and studied and the subject of all these men in her life, including a friend turned doctor? No, sorry. I don’t.

I don’t feel bad for the men, either. They’re all useless self indulgent pigs. The story itself is interesting if the author would’ve taken the time to write empathetic characters and not such stereotypical men and women. If you want a free audiobook, it’s not bad, but I can’t imagine reading a physical copy.

"I often take it out, over the course of the day, and admire it. So you see, I do have my Stella after all.

And I still, of course, have him."

Pleasantly surprised. A psychological novel about a psychiatrist whose wife falls in love with a patient (and murderer) at an asylum. More than I expected.
