I both enjoyed and didn’t enjoy this book.
It’s incredibly interesting with insights into the life experienced at the concentration camps.
But I also found it almost too fast paced, as though important parts of history were mentioned and then quickly skipped over. Perhaps because the horrors are just that, too horrific to dwell on for longer than the few sentences we are given.
I loved that the book itself is basically a piece of history written from real life interviews with the main character.
Am important read that we should probably all acknowledge.
Satisfactory ending? Yes.

7/10. Not my typical kind of book, but very well-written and very compelling story. Would recommend.

The story was interesting, but the writing was just so boring.

Hard to tell where the memory of an old man ended and the fiction began ... which probably works better for a screenplay (which this originally was).  It felt weird that ~half the characters were based on memories of real people (memories are usually not fully fleshed out and these were no exception) and the others were just made up to fill voids by the author?   Some quick research shows that a fair amount of things presented here as "facts" are inaccurate.  Somewhat problematic to blur the lines here, when most people will just read it and accept it as true.  This is not a true story - it is Heather Morris' interpretation of a story she did not live or even have much context for.  I'd recommend reading Night instead.

On another note, the sweet romantic bits were on the sickly sweet, unbelievable side and made the whole thing fall a bit flat for me.  A captivating but poorly written narrative.

I can rarely get into a historical fiction book, but I couldn’t put this one down.
