A story detailing the experience of a Jewish man in Auschwitz responsible for tattooing the prison numbers of the other Jews. Although the book does focus somewhat on the developing romance between Lale (the main character) and Gita (a female prisoner) the romance is not really the center of the novel. Rather the story emphasizes the experiences of Jews in concentration camps- the horror, the mundane, the brief moments of joy. Very emotionally compelling.

this was a really interesting story about a young man during the Holocaust and how he survived the concentration camps and helped out the other people in the camp to the best of his abilities. the relationships that were formed between the characters were so sweet and i thought that that was the best part of the book,

this book is so unbelievably beautiful and heart wrenching. it's not the typical type of book I usually read however I thought I'd give it a go and I'm so glad that I did. everyone should read this book as its so informative and it really resonates and reminds you how lucky we are to have freedom and to live. I cried endlessly towards the endings, the pictures broke me.
