Superato il fastidio iniziale, per alcune descrizioni troppo crude e un'atmosfera opprimente, il libro trascina... L'ho divorato!

wow! maybe i just need to read more thrillers, but it found this so incredibly readable. the language used is short and terse, and really captures the feeling of just being young and terrified. i do wish that (at times) michele hadn't put the plot together so quickly but that didn't really detract from how much i enjoyed this. if anything, him knowing <i>exactly<i/> what was happening the entire time just made the whole thing feel that much more sinister. i'd love to read something else by Ammaniti, i thought this was brilliant and i'll genuinely be singing its praises for a while to come.

Il mio primo approccio ad Ammaniti.
Devo ammettere di aver apprezzato molto la narrazione evocativa; l’ambientazione nell’ambiente criminale e disagiato del sud Italia è resa molto bene.
Per quanto riguarda i pov in prima persona, di solito non sono una grande fan, ma in questo caso l’ho trovato estremamente azzeccato e ben costruito. Mi è piaciuto vedere il processo di caratterizzazione di un bambino di 9 anni attraverso la sua prospettiva, e mi ha fatto piacere averlo trovato coerente e non stereotipato; Michele è svestito di tutta quella finta innocenza e purezza che si tende a dare ai bambini, i quali, invece, spesso sanno essere molto più scaltri e perspicaci di tanti adulti.
Per quanto riguarda, invece, i lati che ho apprezzato di meno direi che la scrittura di Ammaniti non rientra molto nelle mie corde. Inoltre, sono rimasta abbastanza interdetta dal finale, che, per quanto prevedibile, mi sembra entrare un po’ in contrasto con ciò che era stato fatto intuire precedentemente nella narrazione.
In linea generale, non è un brutto libro, ma per l’hype che c’era intorno, mi aspettavo un po’ di più.
