a cute, bittersweet, easy read. i really enjoyed it and it was just what i needed to get me in the reading mood again.

I struggled with whether or not I wanted to enter to win a copy of this book, because I recently finished TFioS and it massively wrecked my life. I also have this weird thing about similar plotlines, but I took a risk and it paid off.

In Kindergarten, a boy drowned in a dam. The teacher said he'd gone to a better place. I thought she meant McDonald's.

Zac and Mia proves that not every YA novel about a teen with cancer has to be compared to The Fault in Our Stars. The book is original as it addresses completely different issues than those in TFioS. Whereas Hazel and Augustus' story takes place largely in "the real world," Zac and Mia are stuck in an oncology ward. Zac and Mia both approach their experiences in different ways from Hazel and Augustus, as I mention later. The story is hilarious and poignant and contains plenty of pop culture references.

Is it possibly my German donor was, in fact, Augustus Gloop?

Unlike some reviewers, I love the characters. I don't think people realize that Mia isn't a bitch, she's angry. She has CANCER. And while she has the best odds (close to 90%), there's still a chance she could fall into that 10%. She's a scared, angry, hormonal teenage girl who doesn't have the best home life, has no social support system, and is enduring chemo all alone.

Mia: Does it hurt to die?
Zac: No.
Mia: I haven't even lived yet.

Zac is her polar opposite. He sees cancer as a blip in his timeline, more annoying than scary, and finds it ridiculous that people would consider him "strong" when he didn't choose this (which is the exact reason he is strong).

Playing three hours of Xbox a day doesn't make me a hero.

Zac and Mia does an amazing job at painting cancer patients as real people with hopes, fear, dreams, and faults. Not everyone is a hero, and not everyone realizes how strong they are. Sometimes life doesn't give you the chance to become "more than just the kid with cancer." Zac and Mia, characters who would probably never speak in the real world, are thrown together and become great foils. It is, as others have mentioned, more about friendship and support than romance.

Google tells me everything I need to know about death except what comes after.

The only thing I didn't like about this book was the title. I refuse to make this into a "The Fault in Our Stars vs. Zac and Mia" competition, because both stories are beautiful and entertaining and I love them both.

4 stars! It was really good but I am not obsessed. It was sad but not too sad.

I disliked Mia at first but as she grew, she grew on me :,)

{4.5} This book, while slightly stereotypical, was also super addicting! I loved both Zac and Mia, and the journey they took together, and the way their personalities interacted with each other. There wasn't too much explaining done in this book, but more of you figure it out as you go and I really enjoyed that. There was a great balance of happy cliche parts and actual sad parts. The book overall was easy to fall in love with and hard to put down.

This novel follows the friendship between Zac and Mia, both cancer patients in a hopsital. They just so happen to end up being roommates and when Mia sends Zac a friend request, their relationship is taken to a deeper level.

This book was cliche in many ways but was still a very light-hearted and joyous read. I loved the characters and really got to connect with them as the plot developed. What really killed this book for me was the basic cliches that are pretty much present in a lot of similar books like these such as the Fault in Our Starts and Five Feet apart!
