I love Temeraire as a character and this book continues that trend. It is heavily character focused, and the plot mostly happens in the background. It’s slower than the first book, but sets up a lot of intriguing possibilities for the future.  Looking forward to reading the rest of this series!

I didn't enjoy this as much as book 1, it still feels like a set up book for a longer series. I enjoyed learning about the dragons I'm China and I'm excited to see where Laurence and Temeraire end up next!

Didn't enjoy this nearly as much as the first one. It's tedious because so much of the book takes place on a boat. A lot of action/intrigue-like events happen at sea...but I didn't find them compelling. The subplot of someone trying to kill Laurence to separate him from Temeraire didn't ever quite feel like it earned the weight it was clearly meant to have on the story.

It was interesting to see how a society built around the acceptance and inclusion of dragons in everyday life might look.

I enjoyed this book, however it did move a bit slow. The ending is pretty action pact though and makes up for the middle of the book. Naomi's writing is fantastic and I can't get enough of her books.
