Very short, more relationship-focused and it leaves out other storylines.

Another great romance from Dixon. I loved the banter in this one.

Dixon’s books are always a lot of fun due to her writing style but the whole risdaverse def does not have the same village vibes as the ipb series which is what really made me love those. I wish we got to learn more about Fran, she felt very dimensional to me.

This one just wasn’t for me. It started off with not just the fear of sexual assault, but pretending it was going to happen (even if Kivian knew he wouldn’t hurt her, Fran didn’t know that!), and I didn’t love the whole ‘I don’t want anyone to rape me but if it has to happen, I’m kind of into that blue guy rather than the froggy one.’ I very much doubt that she would be feeling sexual attraction based on those circumstances. Also didn’t like Kivian’s forcefulness, requiring that she sleep in his bed, even if he wasn’t going to force himself on her, and saying things like: “You think there aren’t females out there that are telling me no with their mouth and yes with their eager hands?” I just felt very uncomfortable with all of that.

Apart from the general iffiness around sexual assault and sexual harassment, the story itself wasn’t my favourite and I was disappointed that Tarekh told Kivian the details of his conversation with Fran where she confessed her feelings for him. I like when friends can steer them in the right direction, but I felt that crossed a line.
