Just finished the book and might I just say: this book is nice but I have to say that it’s also cringey. The writing is easy to understand which is great and the dual-pov is amazing but sometimes, the sentences and writing is cringey. The storyline however, is alright. I like it but I don’t love it.
The last few chapters (Chap34 onwards), however, almost broke me apart. Very well written and I most definitely felt what Ava feels and also slightly felt bad for Alex.

Overall, this book was great. I haven’t read the other books yet (going to do so after reviewing) so I’m not gonna comment why people boast this series just yet.
In conclusion, this book was nice.

Would I read it again? Maybe.
I enjoyed reading this book and the possessiveness was 🙈 Can’t wait to read the following books in this series 🤭

Anna is the queen of romance! I loved this book it was so good. This was my first book with dark romance themes and I loved it. The characters are great and the story line was so different from a lot of the typical romance books you read. It’s got a ton of amazing tropes too like grumpy X sunshine, brothers best friend, hints of one bed, protective. Amazing amazing

Read this because of TikTok. Went in only knowing that it’s a book that has spicy scenes. Which is not bad imo. However didn’t like the possessiveness of the character. He is a walking red flag.
I mean possessive when they are dating, sure. But you broke up and you still go around saying she is mine is just icky.
The communication between the main characters could have been better. Also the plot twist?
The not father killing Ava?
Could have been more thought out. Could have been better. Feels like the author has reached her number of words limit and started cutting chapters out. Like the whole London thing could have been book 2…

Sort of enemies to lovers, definitely forbidden romance, definitely grumpy sunshine, somewhat dominant/submissive. Absolutely spicy af. My goodness. I loved the romance in this story.

There were many times in the book that I thought were unrealistic in a cringey way. I would rarely dislike this in a book, but it went way too fast.  There were too many different story lines and I felt like I couldn't fully process events/feelings.

The smut scenes were good and some of the moments were really sweet but it was tarnished by the fast pace, unrealistic moments and over dramatization.

Look.

I love romance, I love “dark” romance. I love a problematic protag or love interest. This book does not understand the draw of the genre and only the problems.

Dark romance hinges on the idea that loving a villain can be attractive: since they are so disgusted by society, if they find beauty in something it must truly be unique and beautiful. The concept that kindness can thaw even the iciest heart. That it can inspire change or growth. - and hey, it’s fantasy, the idea of being obsessed over or intrinsically tied to someone can be attractive to a certain audience. A villain can forgive all flaws, certainly, since they are so flawed themselves.

To those who do not write the genre well, it comes dangerously close to romanticizing abusive behavior. The concept that the villain does not need to change or drags the other person under their control.

This book takes that second option to the extreme. None of these characters are remotely lovable or even realistic. They are caricature-ish, flimsy, and uninteresting at best. And frankly the idea of “romance” it explores is genuinely terrifying. This tell-don’t-show style of writing is some of the most appalling I have ever wasted my time reading. And it perpetuates the problematic concept that violence and the disregard of others is the epitome of an expression of love.

I actively discourage others from reading this book, even if you’re in search of a “fun/bad” read, and the fact that I could guess this author got her start on Wattpad is telling to say the least
