A beautiful novel with incredible writing. Even though not a lot happens it is still propulsive.

fast-paced

I've got to stop reading these "people running around in the woods, trying to survive" book because what I want them to do is talking about the plants and environment and it just never happens. At this point, my hopes are more delusion than anything else.

This book is really on the nose about its messaging, which I'm not a huge fan of. Otherwise it was a fine enough book. I don't think I'll remember it for very long, though.

If you are a fan of Lauren Groff, or especially if you enjoyed [b:Matrix|57185348|Matrix|Lauren Groff|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1617287438l/57185348._SY75_.jpg|87447766] give this a spin.

Groff is a great writer, clearly. Beautiful prose, expansive scenes well rendered, but I just find these stories to be boring. I was bored out of my mind. Maybe this is more of a 2 star, but I don't think this book really deserves that low of a rating.

For all the human suffering endured it was surely the most boring human suffering I could imagine.

After DNFing Fates & Furies, disliking Matrix, and now this book I think Groff and I simply don't vibe.
