The beginning and end were written too poetically for me to enjoy reading it as half the time I didn’t really understand what she was trying to say….but the middle was pretty good!

Very fast read. Certain parts really pulled me in, especially with flashbacks on the boat. At a certain point it became obvious she was dying and I found that annoying and long drawn out process. It was such a grime world that they were embarking on. I wonder if they even realized how difficult it would be to start Jamestown.

Philosophical. Allegorical. Wonderful but frustrating ending. I don’t think this book will work for everybody, but I think Lauren Groff achieved a lot in the telling of this story.
