Beautiful prose describing harrowing story of a girl that is trying to survive in the wild. As I am not a fan of "plotless" stories, this probably is not a book for me, but I appreciate the author's descriptions of the dangers that face the girl at the unnamed settlement as well as the wild.

This is one of those books that makes you sit back and go…wow….into the void.

A very different read than mine of late—The Vaster Wilds is the story of an English Puritan servant girl who escapes her putrid, disease-filled settlement in search of a better life with the French, only to be met by the cold realities of traveling and surviving the wilderness alone. Trading one harsh existence for another, our protagonist’s hope, faith, and resilience are tested over and over.

I could not stop reading because I HAD TO KNOW how her story ends. And the ending had me sitting in silence for a solid 20 minutes. This book will live in the back—and sometimes the front—of my mind forever.
