beautiful, devastating

This book was extremely brutal and unrelenting and yet there was a lot of beauty to be found. I’m having a hard time rating it but settled on something like 3.5 rounded up. And a reference to Lucia in the acknowledgments which always makes me catch my breath & think of her and her family.

Introspective; without a single line of dialogue in the entire book. Well written, but unexpected. I was looking for more plot, more wilderness survival story. Less religious musing and more bears.

Absolutely nothing happens for almost the entire book. Incredibly boring and dull.

This book left me thinking and wanting more from our protagonist. I enjoyed the watching her grow and change throughout her journey in all those small contemplative moments and while I couldn’t see the story ending any other way, I was still sad at the end.

Vaster wilds, indeed. 3.5. Much beautiful writing and scenery, indeed, but sometimes hard to keep reading - resilience, desolation, brutal, cold
