I love Lauren Groff but this book just didn't speak to me. It's beautifully written as expected from Groff but, for some reason, I just didn't find it that interesting. Definitely could just be me because it has gotten a lot of great reviews.

"Humans were never meant to live alone."

What a rough read... Our protagonist (we never learn her name) seems doomed to suffer the worst of the human experience, and alone at that. This was a frenetic, claustrophobic read. I love Groff's writing but this isn't my favorite of hers!

Lauren Groff is so talented she writes about eating grubs and baby squirrels and frozen raw fish and it somehow sounds delicious. This book is overtly bleak and brutal but it is also hopeful and weirdly cosy and uplifting. It is also anti-imperialist and feminist to the core. Amazing

I found the writing style difficult to begin with but by the end I was impressed by the depth of this book
