While on seaside holiday, Alec discovers a body on the beach leading to his being called up to investigate the possible homicide. As usual, Daisy knows all about the village and has people sharing secrets with her. As the suspects are cleared one-by-one Alec begins to wonder if he will find the culprit.

Daisy is on vacation at the seaside with Belinda & Belinda's friend Deva. She is there for a week before Alec joins her, giving her time to get to know several of the people who will become either a victim or suspects in the crime.
Right after Alec arrives they all go on a picnic where they discover the local ladies man, who has had affairs with a number of women, dead at the bottom of a cliff. The locals decide Alec's presence is a sign and call CID to have him given the case. Suspects abound including the owner of the house where they are staying, because the Mrs was one of the victim's mistresses and also a fellow house guest who had been asking some odd questions about the victim. There is also the spouse of another women and the father of a 16 year old girl, who was the last women he was carrying on with. The 16 year old girl has disappeared.
As usual Daisy provides gossip and Alec sorts out the useful facts. She also goes off in a rescue boat o help save someone trapped in a cave while Alec is off chasing leads. It's a very active investigation & a very active vacation, with lots of hiking & a surprising amount of trust given to a couple of the suspects.
All in all a good mystery.

I actually liked this one better than some of the others. There were a lot of suspects, interesting characters, and it took place at the beach!

The mystery at the beach-cliff side solved - done and dusted -- and good riddance!

I really enjoy all the people Daisy and Co. meet on their out of town adventures - from the local constabulary to witnesses and suspects of diverse personalities and backgrounds.

My favorite in this book was the backpacker teacher and Sid.

And of course, Daisy with the oft-repeated physical characteristic "guileless blue eyes" that make people want to tell her things.

We are always fun. I liked seeing the family on holiday. I was a bit sorry that some of the characters seemed to fall off a bit as the book went on and I missed having Piper and Tom along but still good.

You know, I rather enjoyed this one! She shook up the formula just a little bit, and the added secondary characters were enjoyable. I guessed the ending a bit early but it was still a fun, light read.

This installment comes only a few weeks after the previous novel and is a lovely jaunty seaside murder. If murder could ever be lovely. It's not gory or grisly, and as it's set during the Fletcher's holiday, it has a lighthearted twist to it. I thoroughly enjoyed this read and look forward to the next one.
