Five-star spice *hot damn* with three-star story *explain it to me like I'm 4 please*

I get that this book is celebrated for its mix of genres, but that makes it kind of confusing to read...and ultimately not meant for any specific reader... It's a chaotic blend of sci-fi, thriller, espionage, and romance. It was like each genre had a a little sliver... 100% had no idea what was happening with the time travel technology and wish I could have read it in a book club so people could have explained things to me. Reminded me of that movie Tenet.

All I know is that I've never been more invested in a side romance plot. Probably some of the best spice I've ever read. I think I stopped breathing while reading it.

Its hard to review this book because there were moments when I loved it so deeply and was moved by the absolutely beautiful writing and emotion, but also I was incredibly confused most of the time.

All the characters had so many names I found it hard to keep track of, which mixed with time travel I lost interest in the main plot. The relationship between characters is interesting but feels half baked at times

I wanted to love it but given that I put off finishing it for weeks I don't think I can give it more than 2 stars sadly

A beautiful novel — it’s about “time travel” but you discover that changing the past and the future is something only we can do through forgiveness and hope

Fun read but it was a bit predictable. The main character and narrator didn’t really show much growth or self reflection in comparison to some of the other characters. However, she narrates the story to show her mistakes and expose her flaws.

Insightful bits about what it is to be mixed raised and from an immigrant/refugee family. Reflections about western history, politics and climate change were skillfully interwoven in the story.

I would read the sequel if it ever came out.
