This is a book meant to be digested slowly over time and in bits and pieces. It is a story that rewards patience and attention to detail. It is not a fast paced, action packed spy thriller, rather it is the deliberate creeping speculative sci fi that does numbers when Adam Scott is the star, but loses people in print. It is a love story, a story of climate change and time travel, and a cautionary tale. To not give it space to breath is to do a disservice to your time and to Bradley's beautiful prose.

I went into this expecting speculative/historical fiction and instead ran into a fair amount of open-door romance. The concept hooked me - a government program pulling people from the past and assigning them “bridges” to help adjust; but the pacing was very slow, and the story didn’t fully grab me. The romance, though, worked surprisingly well, and the late twist was fun and unexpected, even if I might’ve missed some foreshadowing because I wasn’t all that invested in the characters.
The last 15% was by far the best stretch, and I wish the rest had that momentum. I liked the ideas more than the execution, and some choices (like housing time travelers with people they’d likely be attracted to) didn’t feel very plausible. Overall, I enjoyed parts of it but was bored through a lot. The book an interesting premise with a lot of moving parts that never fully came together for me.

I almost DNFed this book due to some subject matter added closer to the end. While, this is not a book I wish to reread, I am glad I read it to the end as it has a very poignant ending.
3.5 due to content that made me not really enjoy the book as much as I did in the beginning. The characters are interesting and it is mostly well-written.
