I loved this series. Anything with pirates, count me in. The world was incredible, I loved how even in the third book there were still mentions of new places and the sea always had something to add. The characters were able to grow even more. A lot of the characters arcs were finished, making it a rather satisfying ending. My favorite character was Hime, she was so fierce for someone of her age. My only downside with this book was that I felt like the pacing was slow, which is a rather common reason.

How is it that fully developed characters get completed redeveloped with each book without loosing a single bit from the other books?! It’s just impressive.
The story was fast paced and filled with sea battles. And Caledonia is just brilliant.
I like that the ending forced hard decisions but that they were done with growth and understanding in mind.

I wish there were more books in this series so I could keep reading about my favorite pirate crew forever.

I liked this, and I think it was a decent ending to the trilogy, but I was probably my least favorite of the three books. It suffers a bit, like all "revolution"-esque fantasy stories, of needing to wrap everything up, of upping the stakes so much that it looks impossible for everyone to come back from the edge of destruction, and also means there has to be a much larger scope on the world instead of worrying just about your main character and their immediate group.
Caledonia, like many YA heroines, doesn't feel personally ready to lead a huge army to war, but she's been picked as the figurehead and de facto leader, so she's suffering under that intense pressure. Despite privately not being sure if she's ready, what I love about Caledonia is that she knows what's needed from her, what's necessary, and she doesn't balk at the responsibility or waffle when big decisions need to be made. She's prepared to destroy her own humanity to keep others' safe, and I respect that about her. Overall I liked her arc, as familiar as it was.
I was waiting to see what else was

Spoiler
behind The Net besides the rig that made Silt, and I wondered if we'd ever get more of this dystopian world and learn more about exactly what happened to prevent the soil from being habitable, but despite some hints here and there we never spent more time on it. It wasn't a dealbreaker or anything, but I was a bit curious.crochetchrisie's review

I enjoyed this wrap-up to the trilogy. It was a bit of a departure from the last couple of things I read (more adult-oriented), but the series as a whole was well done and memorable. (I admit there are a fair number of books that I've read that I have no memory of...)
And once again appreciated what I assume is fairly accurate sea battles.

A woman must decide between winning battles and winning wars, hearts, and minds. She faces her greatest enemy and realizes that maybe, he wasn’t the one she should be afraid of.
I think the end of a series is a difficult book to read because you are saying goodbye to characters you've spent time getting to know. I really like how she handled the ending. It doesn't hide from the fact these characters have been fighting a war and there are long lasting consequences to that. It doesn't sugar coat to a happily ever after. I really enjoyed both the series and this book.
