Well, this took a while. It was a quick, easy read, but I was busy so...yeah.
I think this is a pretty good addition to the series that isn't entirely necessary to read, but does still add something to the story—mostly just dealing with characters and relationships. I can't tell you for the life of me where to place the first 2 stories, timeline-wise (where Goodreads has them doesn't make any sense), but I can say I wish I had read this before reading the Last Olympian. You spend more time with Clarisse, Beckendorf, and Silena, who are all pretty important in the 5th one, so I feel like it would've added to the experience. I also really like the concept of Thalia, Percy, and Nico going on a quest.
I don't think I would've bought this one, since I think it was really meant for the bigger superfans, but I’m glad it was on Kindle Unlimited because I'm happy I read it. It's the usual: same fun characters, entertaining dialogue, and interesting storybeats. Overall, I would recommend reading this in the context of the series, especially since it's so quick and easy.
3.5/5⭐️This is the lowest you'll ever catch me rating a PJO book. It gets the job done, but I don't think it's anything groundbreaking and can't really see myself giving more than this (in my head, 3-range is relatively average-pretty good range).

I retract my previous statements. It’s completely worth it to read the sword of hades. The concept of the quest and the execution are great.

Maybe I'm just not into short stories, or maybe it's because I've already finished the Percy Jackson series and I don't usually like revisiting past events (even though the events in this book are new to the reader, they're set during the series)
Three good short stories and lots of filler. Good bridge for the year between books 4 and 5.
It's always amazing to revisit this uniserve, even if these companion books are not as good as the actual books

a quick, fun read for any percy jackson fan. while it's not necessarily... necessary for your understanding of the rest of the series, it was an entertaining and easy read. the only reason I docked a star was because i was clearly not the age demographic for this book, and so didnt get as much enjoyment out of it as younger people might have - the rest of the series has elements that arent so childish, whereas I feel like this book was specifically catered to young kids (not a fault of the book! just an observation really)
