I was craving a weird short freaky sort of book and I got it! It is so compelling and impossible to put down. I felt like I was suffocating. I’ll probably enjoy it a little more when I reread.

Um...what was that?

The author did her job, she confused the crap out of me and my wife for sure.

Ultimately there are underlying social and environmental concerns but in some ways I felt there needed to be a shaman helping me understand what the hell was going on.

I will say this...it made me think and Jenn and I talked about this one A LOT.

Would I recommend? Sure...but only if you are ok with migraines and back spasms.

This was very tense and the audiobook narrator did a great job with the tension and making everything feel very rushed while still actually reading at a good pace and being easy to understand. I just wish there was more clarity around where Amanda and David physically were. Even though David says they're in the hospital, I didn't think we could trust him and I kept waiting to "see" more of where they were.

I overall liked the structure but I thought it could've been grosser too? Towards the end it seemed to dip towards body horror but it didn't go as far as I thought it could and should.

Would still recommend if you're looking for a fast read that feels tense and unsettling but probably won't give you nightmares.

It was for sure an interesting, brain flexing way to read. I didn't particularly care for it. I actually went looking for explanations online for the story because I've seen so many rave reviews that I thought I must be missing something, but no I just straight up didn't enjoy this one. I do think it is still worth a try if you enjoy very subtle political themes or books where you leave with lots of questions.
