The title is perfect for how I feel. Essentially this is a bit of a mindf*ck. It’s a novella with no breaks and no chapters, so you can’t stop. It’s a suspense?! horror?! story so you don’t want to stop. At the same time, the writing style makes it incredibly hard to read. I had to reread sections over and over again. It would have been easier as a play a la Beckett but make it creepy, but I think there’s not supposed to be anything easy about the book.

I did look up others’ thoughts on the book after I finished. I rarely ever do that. The meaning behind the book is actually pretty straightforward. Which makes it even more sad.

acho que nenhum livro me deixou tão ansioso e inquieto como esse. a narrativa da Samanta é incrível... e estou ansioso para ler outros trabalhos dela

Trippy and unsettling just like a fever dream. A nightmare fueled fever dream actually. It was gripping from the beginning that I read it in one sitting. It is a short book after all. The setting, the characters and the writing meshed well together, loved all the strangeness and eeriness of it all but at the end, I felt there is so much left to desire from this short novel. Not that I wanted it to wrap up to make more sense, not at all. I like how ambiguous it was but I needed a bit more from it. So it was just an alright read for me.

It is captivating, but it has no resolution.  This may be one of the strangest stories I have ever read.

For whatever reason, I had a hard time staying engaged with this one. I did find the theme of environmental destruction and how it impacts rural and low-income people to be clear and the dreamy nature of it to be interesting! I liked it more after sitting with it for a while, so it may be one that I just need to read again to better appreciate it.

weird, spooky, read it in a sitting then felt like I wasnt real afterwards
