I think this is a book that people say they like because other people liked it so they think they should like it too. Wasn't amazing for me.

The portrayal of the main character, Molly Maid (cringe), as a quirky girl who doesn't understand social cues is obviously meant to portray some unspecified neurodivergence, mostly likely autism. It's not done well, with care of with nuance. I also found the POC supporting characters to be caricatures as well. There's way too much second hand embarrassment from Molly's inability to read certain social situations and I'm not a fan of how this is turning out to be a case of her being wrongfully suspected of murder.

Interesting book. Loved the main character, as it is not often that people with different cognitive profiles are portrayed as narrating voices- and even more so because it brings to light the easiness with which certain type of non neurotypical people get dismissed when their differences are not easily spotted. A book about differences and about similarities. Good read.
