A bit of a slow start but I got into it more in the second half, especially when Ellie stopped doubting herself so much. I found her quite frustrating as a narrator being so insecure and meek, but I’m glad she started sticking up for herself and I really liked the ending.

It’s giving me the ick so bad, love the nostalgia but it’s poorly written for an adult novel & her date with her ex teacher was the final straw

I don’t recommend this to anyone that hasn’t read the original Girls series from JW.

The nostalgia is great and there’s a few fun references to other books Wilson has written. However, as a character Ellie in adulthood was just not relatable. I understand her stuffy, uptight character as a child as her friends were ready for relationships etc before she was however as an adult it feels a bit judgemental and had me rolling my eyes a bit, especially as she considered shagging her ex-teacher (who wouldn’t stop referring to her/treating her as the child he once knew) as completely fine but engaging in any type of BDSM as absolutely disgraceful and insane. (Why does she have to kinkshame/slutshame Nadine so much?)

The ending was really rushed and left me a bit ‘oh okay then?’, however the narrative style of JW has been and always will be comforting and it was interesting to see LGBTQA+ representation in a JW book.

A wholesome and easy read. It was so nice to read a Jacqueline Wilson book again!
