the second half was better than the first, and I did get invested towards the end. but, ultimately, this was still a bad book

listen, I was the biggest Jackie W fan as a kid, I even preordered the signed version of this and the next book, but it's just so painful to read 😭

no conversation actually goes like that. no one talks like that. the scene where Mr Windsor puts his arm round her in the pub is the final straw

sorry JW, call me a traitor

I really wanted to like this, but it read too juvenile for me, and didn't hold my interest.

i was obsessed with the girls series when I was 13, so i was so excited to relive my youth and revisit these characters… until i read it. this is like what an 80-year-old imagines a 14-year-old imagines a 40-year-old is like (??? yeah - exactly).

also (AND I CANNOT STRESS THIS ENOUGH) she hooks up with her OLD TEACHER?? um. right to jail.

I wish the relationship between
Ellie and Alice has been built up and explored more, rather than spend so much time on Mr Windsor

And it felt like Ellie, Nadine ans Magda hadn't actually grown up - they were still going through the same patterns as in the original book.

Nice gentle read, but unlikely to read again.

I finished this in a day because as always, jacqueline wilson is so easy to read. There were alot of moments where I got the ick, from the writing style more than anything. Ellie also annoyed me alot which I suppose matches up with how she annoyed me as a teenager. I felt guys character changed throughout and not in a normal "revealing his true self" way but more in a "I need ellie to realise she likes girls and make this man annoying" way. I dunno, it was fun to read jacqueline wilson again but I couldn't get the fact jacqueline wilson wrote the sex scenes, it was all just abit icky.

Nice for nostalgia but still feels like it's written for teenagers
