Relatively entertaining and easy read but unfortunately our queen JW doesn’t hit the same as an adult 😖 unrealistic dialogue that didn’t feel true to life, errors (eg phoning for a Deliveroo?) and predictable storyline for me x

It actually broke my heart discovering how Ellie, Nadine & Magda’s lives have gone. They were young and dumb in the original books but they were smart and as adults they don’t seem to have grown at all, besides maybe Magda.

The writing was also really simple and out of touch, it still read as a book for 13 y/o’s. I was hoping for more Marian Keye’s style of writing.

Like Jacqueline's kids books this was an easy read, and definitely reads like a novel written by someone who is used to writing for a younger audience.
Unlike the original Girls books which I devoured as a pre-teen, I saw the ending coming a mile off. I wasn't unhappy with the plot - it was equal parts cosy and upsetting in that "real issues" way that she writes so well, and I was grinding my teeth in fury at Gary throughout which I think was the desired reaction.
However my big disappointment is that this isn't a Girls book: Nadine and Magda are tertiary characters. The intention may have been to show the way that friendships change in adulthood, and the book obviously doesn't have a "Girls..." title, but like a lot of girls (I'm sure) I grew up hoping I'd grow up to be Nadine so having her relegated to a few quick mentions was a real disappointment to me. More so, her big scene involves her having shacked up with a man who abused her which is exactly what she was doing at 13, and my heart aches to see that she could spend another 27 years making the same mistakes :(
