3.5 stars, pleasant story but not quite enough plot for me. Nicely written
I hardly have any words after finishing this book. I am weeping- physically weeping- as the book closes.
Poetically written with humor and the love of an old Irish man regaling in his tales of life from long ago, and some not so far ago, he’s “speaking” to his son and toasting the 5 people in his life that have meant the most to him.
I highly recommend listening to the audio book to hear all the inflections and laughter and anger at all the appropriate times.
If I could give a book more than 5 stars, this would be one for sure.

I know I’m in the minority but I absolutely hated this. This guy really comes across as an awful, spiteful person, yet at the same time feels totally inauthentic. I can practically hear the author over my shoulder the whole time, saying, “Isn’t this part sad? Don’t you want to cry? It’s soooo saaaaad.” The ending is obvious and overblown, sorry, I feel like a Scrooge with this one but I hated it.

1 star for each of the beautiful and touching stories of each significant person in this main character’s life. the inner thoughts and feelings of this character is so emotional, it makes you feel so sympathetic towards him. i had no idea what i was getting into when i got this book and i’m surprised to say that it was just a book full of true heartfelt love. a sad ending, but fitting for this character. great book.
Absolutely wonderful! This book is so heartfelt, so moving and so full of love. I cried on and off throughout the whole story. The words put to the feelings of love and loss are astounding and so real. I cannot wait to see more from this author.
