This is a simple story about a man sitting on a barstool and toasting the five people who have had the most impact on his life. Very moving, beautifully told.

I wasn't sure what this book was about, I have hundreds of books on my TBR list but I am so glad I listened, the story was beautiful!

This is a lovely little story about an old man who sits at a bar and toasts five people who have shaped his life. Like all Irish stories, it is tinged with melancholy, but full of love, loss, anger, and revenge.

It took me a few pages to get into it, then the pages just flew by. The author captures the lyrical quality of an Irish brogue and it was easy to get caught up in the music of the language.

LOVED this debut by Anne Griffin. Hoping that more from her comes sooner rather than later.

This was a sweet "memoir" that left you feeling what Maurice was feeling. I was sad to see it end. You should read this - you won't regret it!

I received this as an ARC from GoodReads.

certainly the best book I've read this year and while I dont like to rank books i've read over my lifetime it has a similar feel to me as A Little Life, which i adored. I listened to this on Audible and the reader, an Irish actor named Niall Buggy, brings the story to life. An incredible performance of an incredible work.

A book I had to buy, because I like to go back and read it every year or two.

This was a beautiful book. So well written. And it tells the story of such a real man. I could see parts of myself and my family in all the characters portrayed by the author.

When I read the premise, I think I had expected a much lighter work. The reviews were so good, though, that I decided there must be more to it. And oh there was. This was a sad, heartbreaking book, but if I had to sum it up in one word...the feeling I’m left with after finishing it...dignity.

I absolutely loved this audio book. The narrator is wonderful. This is a quiet book. An elderly man recounting his life, flaws and all. Telling of his great love , his wife, who passed away two years before, and choices right or wrong that he has made. It is an emotional book.

This was one of the best books I have read in a long time. Just fantastic.
