I guess I now know what happens when all is said and done....I cry.
Not what I would’ve picked out for myself (it was a gift), but very good writing and an interesting story
3.5 stars. Poignant story, but unfortunately I wasn’t “grabbed” by this book, with the exception of the final toast, from Maurice to his late wife Sadie. I listened to this (lovely Irish voice actor) and even dozed off a few times as proof I wasn’t riveted.
I loved this book. Such an original premise and exquisite writing. With this being a debut novel, I was super impressed by the unique first person perspective. First person, but talking to someone else in the story and describing the present while telling stories about the past. Sounds confusing, but it was done flawlessly. There was just enough foreshadowing to keep me guessing but not totally clueless as to what was to come. And I loved the Irish dialogue and mannerisms.
All of the characters were complex and believable. Even though he was far from perfect, I found myself admiring our gruff narrator, Maurice, who had so much to say but didn’t know how to say it in his life. Heartbreaking and honest, his story is one that I’ll keep with me for awhile. 4.9 stars.

I don’t have much to say. I was honestly just not invest and kind of bored. It isnt really a bad book, just not for me.
I'm only a few chapters in and I'm crying for the 2nd time. This is a beautifully written book. I don't know what the rest of it is like, but I assume it stays just as good. I love it.
romanticising the suicide of a lonely old man just ain't the vibe for me soz
