Very sad ending but I can appreciate the kind of love he has for his wife and barely living when she's gone. I can just imagine how his son would feel in that situation though and I don't think he deserve it, no matter what kind of messages he left for him. Still wouldn't soften the blow.
Reminded me of my grandparents a lot. A heavy dose of nostalgia that I wasn’t ready for - grabbed me by the heart strings and played a few chords.
Thoroughly enjoyed this book....at some point I wished that I had the audio version, but I may just listen to it anyway at some point in the future.
"Despite her closed eyes and the anguish of my guilt, I smiled for her, showing her my endless, hopeless, unquestionable love..."
"...unable for the lie of a man I would have to become to make my way into their circle, to be accepted, to belong. But here's the thing, son: I only ever wanted to belong to one person. And she wasn't in that room."

I started this as an audiobook, and loved the narrator, but it became a task to mentally keep track, especially since I was driving. I abandoned that and got the book as quickly as I could and read it with the narrators voice in my head.
This is a lush Irish tale of an evening with Maurice Hannigan, a lonely 84 year-old widower, at his local. He has set out to toast the 5 important people in his life. As he says, “I’m here to remember – all that I have been and all that I will never be again.”
From his childhood through this day, he shares how each of them have shaped him. I was left to wonder who my 5 would be by the end.

The Irish version of The five people You meet in heaven. A good story about a man do you believe is going to commit suicide reliving his life while sitting at a bar. He lived a full life, with his wife and child. He had his struggles losing a child and his brother at a young age. Overall a very good story.
