This one took me awhile to get through even though it was and interesting book. I just kept setting in aside for no reason. Loved both main characters!

What could be just another FBI procedural is so much more. With POVs from our H/h and others the story has so much depth. The suspense is enthralling, the mystery keeps you guessing, the romance is a slow burn. The story pacing is breakneck with just enough action and intrigue. I felt like I came to know Ava and Dominic their doubts and fears, and the way they investigate each case. Hang onto your hats this tale is one thrill ride of a read as well as a sexy heartfelt romance.

Cold & Deadly
4 Stars

Rookie FBI agent Ava Kanas is convinced that her recently deceased mentor was murdered. Yet none of the higher-ups are willing to entertain the idea until a sniper attack results in the death of another agent. Now Ava joins forces with hostage negotiator Dominic Sheridan to get catch a predator who has the FBI in their sights.

Series note: This is the first book in the Cold Justice spin-off series focusing on a new set of characters. Nevertheless, characters from the original series play significant roles and as such, it is recommended that readers begin with [b:A Cold Dark Place|49987667|A Cold Dark Place (Cold Justice, #1)|Toni Anderson|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1563821948l/49987667._SX50_SY75_.jpg|40351596]

An action-packed suspense plot and an engaging romance.

Ava is a rather prickly heroine. Despite her strength and intelligence, she has a chip on her shoulder and finds it difficult to trust others. This is problematic for a fledgling FBI agent as her impulsive actions and imprudent comments often get her into trouble.

Dominic is the exact opposite. As a member of the Crisis Negotiation Unit, he is always calm, collected, and in control except when it comes to Ava. They have great chemistry and it is entertaining to see the stoic agent discombobulated by his feelings.

The suspense plot is intense and exciting. There are several nail-biting moments and the ending is particularly satisfying. Although there are some good red herrings, it is possible to figure out the identity of the villain by paying careful attention.

Overall, a solid beginning to the spin-off and I look forward to reading the next book, which takes place in an uncommon setting - Indonesia.

Stayed up into the wee hours to finish this one. I have been enjoying how each fast-paced mystery in Cold Justice has been vastly different, and have been getting better. Sheridan and Ava's romance also worked well with the plot, and Sheridan really evolves over the course of the book to the point where
Spoiler he's defending Ava in front of the president.
. Mallory and Alex were also pretty prominent in this story; I loved how the characters have continued to appear in each other's stories, and that you don't need to worry about not reading them in order.

3.5… possibly 4. Audible narration is what got me. Should have read it instead of listening to it.

Cold & Deadly is the first book I've read by Ms Anderson, and honestly, I wasn't certain what to expect. But this was a great read, as not only was it suspenseful, exciting and a little intriguing. But it gave a glimpse into what certain departments in the FBI do. Especially the Crisis Negotiation Unit, and it was clear this story was very well researched. Not to mention the characters were extremely well fleshed out and the romance between Dominic and Ava engaging. Although not to the point of distracting from the hunt for a serial killer who is systematically killing off FBI agents, and there certainly was enough twists and turns along the way to keep me guessing, and hooked. And therefore I would happily recommend this story to others.
