Another great story from Genevieve Graham. I love that her stories focus on Canadian history.
Marion and Sassy are very different women and they manage to form a beautiful friendship. I love that Sassy brings Marion out of her shell and Marion provides a solid female role model for Sassy.
I loved the ending and I look forward to reading more of Genevieve's work in the future.

Far from my favourite of her books, this was an OK only read for me.
Marion is working as a psychiatrist in Toronto in the 1960s and would love to help veterans struggling with PTSD. Sassy is a hippy who has never had to struggle in life whose brother signs up to fight in Vietnam with the US marines.
After what felt like an overly long introduction of about 1/3 of the book, the women discover they are neighbours and become close friends.
At times the narrative about deinstitutinalisation felt overly didactic and could have done with editing, but there were some things to be learned.
Not in the same league as The Women, also about women in Vietnam.

A good book based on the Vietnam War. Great character development, and I liked learning about all the interesting things that took place in the 1960’s.

Wow! This was my first HF set in the ‘60s, and I loved both the characters and the story.
Told in dual POV, Genevieve Graham once again focused on lesser known/discussed Canadian history - deinstitutionalization, as well as Canada’s role in the Vietnam War.
Told from the female and Canadian perspective, this book contained some solid heartbreak, but it also had a happy/hopeful ending. There was even some romance, which I always appreciate.
Self discovery, the power of friendship, and the small world phenomenon drive this tale
The note to readers at the end was fantastic, as always - I never ever skip hers, and recommend you don’t either!
Overall, another must read historical fiction - I highly recommended picking this up
