I realized after buying it that the age rating was 8-12...
Might be why I didnt love it so much.

Another YA book I've just finished reading with my son. The writing style really sparkles here - something all too rare in fiction written for kids. By the end, you absolutely ache for this lovely, misunderstood boy.

This book was very well written! It left me with a mixture of emotions: happy, sad, sympathetic, empathetic, and inspired. I couldn't help but love Donald, and embraced his love of life.

Have no recollection of the plot, but I remember liking it. Every single elementary/middle school classroom library has this. Always there. A book you can count on. 4 stars for consistency.
