3.82 AVERAGE

3.5 rounded up for good character development. A very quiet book that hits hard on the emotions, and telegraphs just what you're going to be hit with. There are no surprises here, and the tidy bow at the end may irk some, but an overall enjoyable read.

Emotional read

This story was heart warming and thought provoking. 5 people stuck together in a snow storm learning about the struggles each other face. Love the different points of view and the character development. Heart breaking and heart warming all at the same time. Finding meaning after loss and learning to let go.

This book does have a considerable amount of cursing in it which is why I didn’t give it 5 stars.

I had high hopes for this. Disappointed in the pacing.

This book is told from more than one character's perspective, and I think the author did an excellent job with that. There is a snowstorm, and a group of people get stuck together in the library. They all learn a little more about each other and what has led them to where they are today. They also all learn something about themselves through these discussions.

I'm a fan of novels premised on the idea that everyone has a story few of us know. This novel delivers on that idea in some unexpected ways, making even the less sympathetic characters more engaging. I'm also a sucker for public libraries, so the fact that a library plays a central role in this story was a bonus.

I wasn’t sure about this one in the beginning but I’m glad I stuck with it. It was beautiful and tragic and heartbreaking and uplifting all at the same time. I definitely got a little misty more than once.

Nora is a librarian in a small town an hour away from Denver. She spends her days helping people, volunteering at homeless shelters in her downtime. Hoping that someone somewhere is doing the same for her big brother Mario, an addict who she hasn’t heard from in years.

Vlado is the security guard at the library who is secretly in love with Nora. Marlene us a curmudgeonly older woman whose husband Charlie keeps encouraging her to make new friends. Jasmine is a teenager trying to recover from losing her mom to cancer. And Lewis is a homeless drug addict hoping to glimpse his granddaughter one last time before he dies.

The five of them get stranded together in the library during a terrible snow storm. They learn about each other and themselves in the process. And they all leave the library as changed people.
