this was a pure hype-train read and HONESTLY it was worth it! julia fox is one of the most chaotic narrators / storytellers i have ever read but i definitely love to hate her and hate to her love her as i was working my way through this one. she writes simply and honestly, admitting truths to herself (and me) so brutal that i cant believe she has admitted them to the world, stripping me of the shame i feel for some of my own vulnerable thoughts. while reading about her 97th bender in new york felt frustrating, and she makes A LOT of bad decisions, she cleverly leaves me rooting for her and wanting to see her succeed in spite of it all. i am really really impressed with this one, and it is so refreshing that the grandest love in her life is not from men but her chosen family - the vibrant cast of friends surrounding and encouraging her throughout her highs (like actual drug highs) and lows (like multiple points of almost dying). also for everything she has endured with the men in her life, she deserves to kill at least 3 men per day.

“icon” is simply an understatement.
