This was fun. Recommend this for anyone who wants a quick run read but not sure graphic novel would be the choice. Give it a try!

Seconds, (weirdly the second book I read today and that's a coincidence, I did not plan it), was delightful. Pretty art and fun storytelling and characters.

I love good titles. Good titles tend to not waste themselves, they often insinuate questions and impressions in the reader's mind, they linger in their matter-of-factness or they haunt elusively. Seconds is both, ephemeral and concrete, narrow and wide. Here we see Bryan Lee O'Malley following up his Scott Pilgrim series with something different, not unlike Katie in this story wants to follow up her restaurant with something different. The story is one that is all about change, and how we want change but we also want to pick that change, control it. Katie wants to have her cake and eat it too.
O'Malley is exploring some new themes and using some different techniques. His layout work is more adventurous and experimental than Scott Pilgrim, and also more purposeful. Seconds is a small thing, comparative to Scott Pilgrim, and so the pleasures here are often different. Bryan Lee O'Malley is practicing and growing here, and it is pleasure to see and read it.
