Going into this book, I wasn't 100% sure what to expect. What we ended up with was a bittersweet story about house spirits, literally magic mushrooms, and letting go.

Comparisons to Scott Pilgrim are inevitable, but Seconds is a very different sort of story. There are no epic fights, no evil exes, and very few (if any) geeky references. And while I loved those things in SP, I love that O'Malley didn't feel the need to rely on them here.

This book was so amazing. I loved it best thing to have read on my birthday.

Review coming soon.

3.5/5
Sometimes protagonists that just do everything wrong really piss me off. And that's what happened in this. Katie just really really annoyed me. Ending was good though and it was quite cute. And I love how the author added in the quote "BREAD MAKES YOU FAT?!" from Scott Pilgrim
The artwork was absolutely fantastic though. And the colour was fantastic since I was used to his stuff being black and white as it is in Scott Pilgrim. Very good.

Gotta go fast

I wondered how you could follow up on Scott pilgrim without dropping in quality and quirkiness, and without being a clone of pilgrim. I think O'Malley did a great job. Katie is flawed and at times even unlikable but means well enough to keep your support (like pilgrim). I think the message in this book was stronger and it was nice that it focused on more than just a relationship. the art was beautiful and actually fully colored this time around so that was a plus too.
