4.1 AVERAGE

I liked the characters, the art, and the narration. However the main story trope I have seen one too many times and kind of hate it. I did like the twist it put on it in the end.

The ending felt a little rushed, but it is still really enjoyable.

4.5 stars! This book was very fun and quick! Unlike the other graphic novels I read I felt like this one was not as confusing, and it was pretty good!

Great, thanks Bryan for taking my worst fears about myself and telling me I'm 100% correct.

Dammit.

I like how sortof bombastic it was. The book shouted the emotions at you. Despite that, it was also subtle in the right places.

Me gustó mucho!

To be clear: I hated Scott Pilgrim. Didn't like it at all. So I was very hesitant to pick up Seconds. Once I got started, though, I didn't want to put it down. Seconds is a story head and shoulders above Scott Pilgrim--well-drawn and well-crafted.

I really loved the Scott Pilgrim series and I wanted to see what BLoM did next, particularly as a standalone piece. Katie's story is all about doing things over and trying to right what we consider to be wrong... except Katie's not perfect. In fact, she's pretty shallow, selfish, and mean. She's retreated into her own little world at the start of the book, with a focus just on getting away from her old life. I really enjoyed her as a character - she's flawed and she wants the world to change around her. Until, of course, it does start changing around her, and not for the best.

O'Malley's writing style continues to be amazing... if you like that sort of thing. There are many instances where the wall between narrator and characters is broken. The little asides are funny, and the dialogue is excellent.

The art was one of the few things in this story that tripped me up, and it was really just Max's character that bugged me... he looked too different from everyone else. Katie also stood out, in that she seemed a little less realistic, but I can give that a pass because she's the main character. The layout to me was cleaner and less cluttered than Scott Pilgrim was, and I liked the way the pages were paced. The hardcover is beautiful - great colors, clean pages, and a great use of the architecture in the restaurants.

Not impressed. A young woman has a quarter life crisis? What? She does something drastic to try and control things, and its about a boy?? What? It all goes to pot, but she learns an important lesson about how strong she really is and how love really does keep it together??? Sorry, O'Malley, this one didn't work for me.
