if you like the musical, just skip this book - the plot of the musical is better anyways.

3.5 out of 5 stars. This is definitely more of an older teen read than a pre-teen read..based on the subject matter and language. I found the concept interesting (a geek eats a "squip", a microcomputer in pill form, that tells him what to do and how to dress in order to be cool and get girls) and the book was witty. However, the end sort of abrupt. But maybe that is how the kids like it these days. ;)
I read this because of the musical and was a little disappointed because the ending is very different. Jeremy is about the same character-wise but the SQUIP isn't as interesting. The ending felt rushed and unsatisfying. If you are a fan of the musical and looking for more then you might be disappointed because this is very short and not nearly as interesting, at least not with its lack of any real resolution.
An unusual plot. I liked the idea but felt like Vizzini didn't push it to its limit. A fun read but I wasn't wowed by it.
This book was good, don't get me wrong. But I got invested in the musical before I read this, so, my interpretation was that the SQUIP was evil and will take over the world. And I was just waiting for the SQUIP to turn and reveals real motives.
Instead I get an unbearably embarrassing confession from Jeremy and an afro haired Michael that was mentioned almost 5 times.
But, the concept is definitely interesting, and the way it turned out was nice. When Michael showed up in the end, I was glad that he had a little purpose other than mentioning 'script'.
A bit disappointing, but I enjoyed it. Most of it at least.
