It's really not a good book. The characters a terrible people and the ending was freaking trash. However, it was turned into a wonderful Broadway play and it's nice to see where it came from. Broadway did it better.

I read this book after reading It's Kind of a Funny Story, eager for more by Vizzini. (I had seen it earlier at a bookstore while Christmas shopping and considered buying it for a friend, but now I'm glad I didn't) The story isn't bad, in fact it's a pretty interesting idea. The writing isn't half bad, either. I just found the high school parties, drama club, and lonely teenager kind of mediocre. The story sort of reminded me of part of a series that I really liked when I was younger- Animorphs. Not the main plot, but the idea of having things (pills, slugs) go into your brain to control you/make you better. Not a bad read, considering it's lack of length, but not my favorite either.

Quick read to fulfill a challenge prompt. I love the musical and enjoyed the graphic novel. I may have to track down the full novel as well. “Michael in the Bathroom” was playing in my head the whole time I was reading.
I think this might be a very good book for the target audience - I just don't think I was said target.
I'm very conflicted about this book. I read it because I like the musical and I also remember that I enjoyed another book by Vizzini a few years back.
The story in general and the concept of squips are something I really enjoyed.
However, I think there was a lot missing. The ending came so fast, the structure confused me and the characters lack depth or sympathy. In addition, the writing style, especially in the beginning, was so hard to read and not very enjoyable.
Still, I'm glad I read it, because now I can appreciate even more that they made such a nice musical of an okay-ish book.

This story is funny and a great way to see into a teenage boys mind.
