Absolutely loved this. Eve Babitz makes you feel like the main character people watching in a crowded room.
if there was an imaginary genius writer inside of me that just wasn’t given the right direction, training, birth.. she would write like Eve Babitz.

An easy read, but not in a way where the narrative is enthralling or the topic engaging, more so in the way that nothing in particular happens and you're not attached to the story. I found the characters quite boring. More often than not, I felt myself wondering why I should even care about them.
If the novel had been told in first-person diary format, I think it would've been strong with a better flow. Instead, the vignettes where nothing happens, you meet people who are then thrown away at random, and plot lines discarded on a whim, kept me from truly being immersed in Jacaranda's world.
Also, everything being centered around men is quite trite. Overall, boring and not what I expected.
