Ummmmm I just found it really difficult to care about any of the characters in this book (until Sonia was introduced). I couldn’t picture Jacaranda, I really didn’t give a f*ck about Max, I think Etienne was fairly strong but the rest were just forgettable. I feel like this could be a really captivating, nostalgic read if you’re from America - or California specifically - because of how central the setting is to the story and the portrayal of the characters. I just couldn’t connect with it. I also found the name Jacaranda so grating. No one nicknamed her (until Sonia) and the author just repeated Jacaranda, Jacaranda, Jacaranda like 10 times per page. We get it you gave your protagonist an edgy name. I just wish this book had more heart, more vulnerability. There were flashes of it but not enough. Just didn’t do it for me unfortunately so I prob won’t bother with Black Swans. Also there is literally no sex or rage in this??????
