I feel like the title Sex & Rage implies passion and interest and that was no where to be found. This was sooo boring and the characters were all such weird and confusing assholes. There were occasionally interesting passages but on the whole this was not for me.

“All waves are the same, pulled by the moon, spent at the end. But no two are alike even more.”

Loved this trip to 70s California. Will be back soon!

Sometimes I like books about absolutely nothing…this was not one of those times. The writing was all over the place and I found myself grinding through the last quarter of this already short book just to finish it.

i think what annoyed me about this book is that throughout, jacaranda lacks agency. things seem to happen to her, rather than her making things happen. that made the book a little bit of a surreal, irritating experience.

i love eve babitz so much!!!! she is so good at making me want to live in LA even more than i already do.

girl does cool girl things and develops alcoholism

I love the way Eve Babitz writes about places. The way she evokes the essence of New York is magical. But nothing about her characters seems remotely authentic or believable. Everyone is an enigma or a caricature, and I got tired of reading it pretty quickly.

this book was difficult to read, and impossible to finish. every character is insufferable and the writing seems like unedited stream of consciousness.
