As a queer Black woman in Minneapolis with Tobagonian parents, I really wanted to love this book. The story was moving but the character dialogue was incredibly distracting. It felt as though it was trying painfully too hard to be “cool, hip, and Black” or “an island gyal”

This book was definitely magical. Right away, I felt inspired to use excerpts of it in my classes in the future. Like the theme of the book, the narration was a constellation, which was interesting, but at times confusing. It might've honestly been easier to follow if I had read it and not listened to it. It was nevertheless a bittersweet story with loveable characters. I'm not the target audience, so I think there's an extent to which I just can't connect with some of it, but it was cool. I liked the ending.

Gosh I loved this. I didn't really know much going in, so one of the main plot points really took me by surprise. This book is so beautiful and it made me cry a lot. I'd definitely recommend it.
