This is a genius piece of literature which simultaneously made me grateful that I'm not living in Oceania and terrified thinking if we're ultimately heading towards our own Oceania.
it's a horrifying book because it's not so devoid of our currently reality that we cannot relate. The constant surveillance and control, the altercation and removal of past so truth is not objective anymore, the torture, conditioning and removal of outliers, holding down power just for the sake of power without any illusion of doing it for the good of humanity may all seem extreme, but we cannot deny that they all exist currently in at least some parts of the world and we may as well be heading to these extremities day by day.
Another genius concept that needs to be mentioned is Newspeak. Language is the tool to think. By limiting the language itself, some thoughts cannot even arise and deviating, revolutionary thinking is automatically stopped.

I enjoyed this, particularly the last few chapters were quite haunting (and therefore stood out to me). It was no [b:Animal Farm|7613|Animal Farm|George Orwell|https://images.gr-assets.com/books/1424037542s/7613.jpg|2207778] though, which remains my favorite.
Read this book if you haven't. It's extremely relevant. If the entire book were as intense as the final chapters, this would have easily gotten 5 stars from me. The missing star is taste-based only and doesn't reflect whether this book is actually good or not. It is in fact very good, just not a favorite of mine.
