This book is absolutely perfect and good for anyone getting into Star Wars books. I'd even recommend it for those who haven't seen any piece of Star Wars media. However if your a person who struggles to follow a large cast and story that eventually crosses over than I advice to not read this book.
Light Of The Jedi is a masterpiece of storytelling in my eye. Star Wars has been suffering from nostalgia and trying to cash in on the past so I'm really excited to explore a whole new era not connected to the Skywalker. The book felt fresh as a result of being set two hundred years before Phantom Menace. Despite being disconnected from the Skywalker Saga its still really important as it helps us see the beginning of the Fall Of The Jedi and how they turn into the atrocious jedi of the prequels. The prequel movies made me really struggle to care for the Jedi but with Soules writing he manages to capture the jedi in a perfect way and show that they are complex characters. I'm really excited to continue to follow the story of all these new characters introduced as there stories were so engaging. The ending was amazing and also a shocking conclusion to the story. It made me really emotional and left scarred for life so thank you Charles Soule. I was also really shocked at how brutal the violence was. Some character deaths left me emotional.
Despite having a large cast Charles Soule made me care about each Jedi in the book and anxious when they were in near death situations. Some of the standouts for me were Avar Kriss, Elzar Mann, Burryaga, Bell Zettifar, Loden Greatstorm and Indera Strokes.
Very excited to read more of the high republic era, it honestly feels like the best star wars era to me.

Come to board the High Republic hype train, stay to read the descriptions of how each Jedi pictures the force. Charles Soule, please write everything always and forever.

Overall, I found Light of the Jedi to be a wonderful introduction to the world of the High Republic. However, it was very clearly an introduction, with a myriad of characters being introduced. I found the characters to be quite lovable, and was amazed by Soule’s ability to make me fall in love with characters who only appeared for a chapter or two. Yet, that very nature of the story made it feel rather incomplete (though I suppose this was quite intentional, to keep me wanting more!). Additionally, there was an inexplicable quality Soule’s prose that felt a bit abrupt, pulling me from the story from time to time. Because of this, it took me far longer to sit down and complete the book than usual. I personally believe that this “disconnect” I felt is due to many of Soule’s past works being comic/graphic novel works, in which the writing itself is primarily dialogue/thought driven, and art can be used to convey details relating to character appearance or setting. Regardless, I think Light of the Jedi is a quality book, and the characters and the world introduced here are just truly stunning! I’m left looking forward to experiencing more of the High Republic era.
