Iris is the perfect main character, flawed and stunning and kind and passionate and agh! I love her.
The way Macneal mirrors iris and rose and then Louis and Silas is brilliant. The concepts of obsession vs love, male gaze vs female gaze, and the concept of true freedom are explored so beautifully. I cannot recommend this book enough. It is so elegantly told as well as beautifully written. Just stunning.

I finally finished this book after a long time. I bought this book because of its beautiful cover, and unfortunately for me, the story didn't follow its cover. The writing was beautiful, but as much as I wanted to like the story, I skimmed almost throughout the entire book because I got bored and couldn't find any connection to the story or characters. Not only until the last quarter of the book did it become a page-turner. I wanted the ending to be more, but it was overall good.
As I know, this is a historical/goth fiction, so perhaps that is why this book is not for me.
