Vrlo interesantna pričica koja oživljava viktorijanski London. S jedne strane beda, s druge strane umetnici.

If the Pre-Raphelites, reimagined with the fictional and devilishly charming Louis Frost, a Regina George portrayal of Dante Gabriel Rossetti, met American Psycho with a taxidermic twist, and then all were spun in a web of love and desire in a stunning oil portrait... it would result in this book, handed to you by a single-toothed orphan with the biggest heart in the world.

This was an interesting read set in Victorian England and centred around a young woman named Iris, who chooses to leave her respectable life and become a model for an artist named Louis Frost. Unfortunately for Iris, a curiosities seller named Silas has taken a shine to her and things very quickly develop in a sinister manner.

I enjoyed the novel and the characters. The biggest surprise for me was Silas - although he was a very sinister character, I definitely had moments where I felt incredibly sorry for him.

I also felt that a lot of the novel was building up to the last 80 pages and perhaps more could have happened in the first section of the book to keep the reader interested. It was a slow burner.

3 stars from me.

This novel follows the fortunes of a young woman, Iris, who dreams of becoming an artist while slaving away painting the faces of dolls in Mrs Salter's doll emporium. Iris falls in with the Pre-Raphaelite Brotherhood of artists (including Rosetti and the like) and all her dreams of becoming an artist herself suddenly seem possible. However, a chance encounter with a disturbed taxidermist who develops a terrifying obsession with Iris puts her in enormous danger.

It's a dark, moody historical thriller about art, ambition and obsession, deeply evocative of Victorian London in all its grime and squalor. Very enjoyable.

With thanks to the publisher and Netgalley for an ARC.

"Increasingly troubling suspense" rife with symbolism, duality, and curiosity. The author very tenderly penned this story.

Wasn't sure what I was going to make of this book but I devoured it in two days! Gave it 4 stars because I started to get slightly lost somewhere in the middle, but it soon picked up again. A really, really good read!
