If you thought The Magicians was interesting, but slow and hard to get through, read the s out of this book because it's way better.

Better than the first! Cleans up some of the issues with Quentin being so unlikeable. Goes into some WEIRD places and continues that extrapolation from the first that Maybe It's Not Good for Humans to Have Magic?
Julia's interludes were great but could have been included in the first without issue. Probably should've been included in the first from the get go.
On to the third I guess.

bro the twists and turns in this book…
pacing was much better than book 1 and the general mood was a lot less depressing too, because (a) quentin is finally starting to become more self aware and grow as a character / person and (b) the changes between quentin and julia's POVs let us learn about Julia's backstory which is QUITE INSANE. i can appreciate how deeply flawed each character is.
therape scene… super disturbing and unexpected dhdhdhshsh
i think i am gonna take a break from this series even though I'm just left with book 3 and read some non-fiction instead lol

I really enjoyed the back and forth between present day and Julia's past. It somehow wasn't jarring and flowed nicely. The story was classic fantasy adventure and held my attention throughout. I really enjoyed this entry in the series, perhaps more than the first.
