15-year-old me: This is the height of romance!
32-year-old me: Nononononononono

Was a good story but Banner Coleman character was a little too whiny for me.
I really liked the first book Sunset Embrace. Knowing there was a sequel I was interested to see what happened. Less than halfway through I knew I didn’t like this book. Banner was not a good heroine, and I didn’t care for her to be with Jake. Their whole relationship felt too forced to me. I hated the ending. I’ll never read this book again, and it has probably ruined the first book for me.
I put off reading this book for so long because I knew the ending would break my heart, and it did. I actually feel sick about it because I loved Ross and Lydia so much. Sunset Embrace is one of my favorite books ever.
I don’t think I’ve ever despised a book character as much as I despise Priscilla Watkins. What a brilliant villain!
This book was so beautiful, though. So, so good. This one wasn’t quite as angsty as Sunset Embrace but there was a good deal of rejection and cruel words from Jake.
Sandra Brown’s Western romance is unrivaled. This book shattered my heart.

It’s just creepy.
The hero used to be in love with the heroine’s mother. And when he couldn’t have her, he fucked her daughter eighteen years later instead.
The constant comparisons of the heroine to her mother, by both characters, is just gross.

✦ Sunset Embrace (Coleman Family Saga #1) ~ ★★★ (07/05/2019)
Sandra Brown has been writing romances under a variety of names since 1981. By the late 1980s, she settled on writing all her books as Sandra Brown and in the 1990s, her earlier works were re-released. Those that were under pseudonyms were released now with Sandra Brown listed as the author.
Another Dawn, the sequel to Sunset Embrace, both published in 1985 is stylistically between her earliest works (see my review of Seduction by Design) and her later ones (see my review of Envy). Betrayed at the altar, Banner Coleman decides to carve her own destiny by starting her own ranch. She also has her sights on long time family friend and ranch hand, Jake Langston.
I normally like frontier novels with strong, independently minded female protagonists. Unfortunately for Another Dawn, I've read better novels with very similar plots. Another Dawn is too full of clichés, gratuitous sex and sexism.
Instead of Another Dawn, I recommend the following:
* Dude Woman by Clarence Budington Kelland
* Arizona by Clarence Budington Kelland
* Buffalo Grass by Frank Gruber

In the preface I learned this book was first published in 1985 under a pseudonym; republished under the author's name in 2014 to appeal to Sandra Brown's large audience. She had previously written some steamy romances under a pen name, so I knew this would not be the thriller kind of story I had come to expect. The story was OK, good for a rainy day needing a book to read. Banner, 18-year old luscious, spoiled, head-strong rancher's daughter, was humiliated when her groom admitted his infidelity publicly after being shot in the shoulder by an angry father. That kind of drama sets the stage for the rest of the story. It was kind of fun except that I have a hard time with a 18-year old girl going after a 38-year old drifter cowboy.
