Hm…I don’t know what happened but I did not like this book.

For context: I have been reading this series out of order—I started The Succubus’ Prize (book 4) and The Kraken’s Sacrifice (book 2).

I hate that I’m comparing the two other books I’ve read in the series because this was the book that started this series…but it was such a let down.

Yes, these books are erotica but from the other two I read they did a good job of balancing that aspect with balancing themes of rejection, grief, religious tramua, etc.

But this book didn’t do that and I think that’s what left me disappointed. And try as I might, I could not find Sol and Briar Rose’s relationship compelling and despite being rather short this book felt like it dragged on and on. I tried to give this one a fighting chance like the others but unfortunately I couldn’t and skimmed through the rest of my reading.

I enjoyed this story a lot more. There was more of a plot even with it only being 190 pages. I know that technically there is an order in which the "Deal with a Demon" books are to be read, however, I did not read them in order. I did not realize that till I started reading this one. I do see these books as being read as stand-alone. The multiple characters show up in each other stories but I don't think you need to read the other one to understand the story being told. It was also an interesting telling of what one would consider "Beauty and the Beast" but with demons and more spicy scenes.

Cheesy, predictable love story with lots of spice... The climax and resolution of the story happened in within the last 20 pages and everything got tied up in a "happily ever after". Not the strongest or most compelling read from Katee Robert but this is a fun quick (NSFW) read when you just need low brain power.

I want to see the 4 years where they were just happy and chilling!
