Finally! FINALLY!
This book took me ages, but je ne regrette rien, rien!
Even though I read it for more than a month, this was so well written and genuinly entertaining that it seemed as if I had never stopped each time I started reading it after a long pause. Characters are amazing, you cannot but love them. The plot is complex but still enjoyable, even though it lacked some spark from the first book. The Setting is in France and Scottland, and it cannot get any better than that in my opinion. The author so accurately portraied spirit of the time, that I somehow started to believe that I'm plotting in Versailles wearing a beautiful dress while holding Jamies's hand.Furthermore, the writing style is superb, and somehow never boring, even when they are talking about politics.

So onto the characters. Jamie is as perfect as it was in the first book, and do I dare to say even more so. He truly is one of the most amazing male protagonist, his genuineness makes me believe that there might be good in this world. The last thing he did left me heartbroken because it was so typical of Jamie to do something like that. Claire is just kickass, amazing in every way, smart and capable young woman who know what she wants and is not afraid to acheive it. But she is nevertheless ready to sacrifice herself to help the people who now have become her friends and family, and I admire her for that.

All in all, I liked it very much and I can't wait to start reading Voyager.

SPOILERS!!!

Even knowing exactly how it would end, this book still managed to break my heart.

I recently rewatched the entire Outlander series and had a clear memory of the major plot points — Claire’s return to the future, the separation, the heartbreak. But reading it on the page, experiencing it through Claire’s thoughts, hit me in a completely different way. The emotion was deeper, sharper, and much more personal. It was painful — in the best, most immersive way.

There’s something about the way Gabaldon builds her stories — the scale, the emotional depth, the intimacy between characters — that creates such a strong sense of attachment. Claire and Jamie’s relationship felt so vivid and layered here, and the writing carries their bond with quiet power. Even with all the political manoeuvring and broader historical stakes, it’s the human side of the story that stays with me.

The Paris sections are still probably my least favourite part of the series so far — not for the setting itself, which is visually stunning and richly detailed — but because the court intrigue and strategy didn’t hold my attention the way the emotional moments did. I also felt there were maybe two or three scenes that could have been trimmed. That’s the main reason I’m giving this 4.5 stars instead of 5. Still, I fully understand why all those elements are there. The slow burn and complexity are part of what makes this book what it is.

What really surprised me was how different the 1960s sections felt — almost like a separate novel. The tone, the pace, even the cast of characters created a noticeable shift, and I actually loved that. It made the immersion feel even deeper. Roger ended up playing a larger role than I expected, while Brianna felt quite marginal for now — I’m sure that will change in the next book.

As with Outlander, I found myself appreciating the ways the show and books diverge. The performances in the series are phenomenal, but I realised while reading that the Jamie and Claire I picture don’t exactly match the actors anymore. I think that’s a good thing. It means the characters have become fully alive in my imagination — something that happens only when a book truly connects.

I promised myself a break before diving into Voyager, but I already miss these characters and this world. This series has become something very personal, and I’m grateful to have returned to it.

I loved this book, almost as much as the first. I did think it dragged on between pages 500-600 or so, but the ending made up for it. I cried so much in the last 50 pages it was ridiculous. I mean, I figured things would work out, but I still could not stop. Additionally, I found myself getting mad at the characters near the beginning of the book. I understood the reasoning for their actions, but that didn't mean I had to like it. All in all, it was great, and I can't wait to read the next one.

This one took me forever to finish, but still has me hooked and ready to go get the next book!
My mom read these books ages ago and shared some spoilers with me. Not many, but enough that there was no excuse for my snot crying in the last 60 pages or so.
While I still think there is NO NEED for a book to be this long because so much happened and a lot of it I don‰ЫЄt remember even from the same book, I will continue with this series and eventually watch the show.
This series is incredibly well written and interesting. I‰ЫЄm thrilled to be done with it, but also want to read it again and again.

Loved this book! What a cliff-hanger at the end?! I am in love with little Fergus' character, what a nice addition to the character list. However, there were too many French characters in my opinion. It got really confusing for me in that respect. I love how it is written, with the time jumps the way they are. I can't wait for the next one!

Absolutely fantastic. I wasn't as enamoured of the first book and hesitated picking this one up. But it's been cracking reading. The second book follows Claire Fraser's story but links it back to the present with ease. Cannot wait to continue this journey!
